Take a tour of our new corporate headquarters

Dear Colleagues:

I haven’t written many articles for our VISTA Views over the past few issues, leaving Josh and the many other VISTA voices and opinions to share with you.  However as November was again another VISTA anniversary I feel appropriate in reflecting upon the past and perhaps seeing into the future. As we enter our 23rd year, I’m reminded of the America lyrics:

Ain't the years gone by fast
I suppose you have missed them
Oh, I almost forgot to ask
Did you hear of my enlistment?

                                            Funny, I've been there

And you've been here
And we ain't had no time to drink that beer…

The days of C Band analog satellite transmission being the newest most direct and exciting means of delivering information is behind us (perhaps once moving towards obsolescence, yet new again).  One channel per 36 MHz, two audio channels with standard sub-carriers was the norm.  Even the language has changed when coordinating a transmission in this digital age.  Symbol rates, FEC, embedded audio, aspect ratio are all part of the new lexicon.

But the years have gone by fast!  The digital signature is upon us.  We are all moving massive amounts of data in various forms of delivery within this new architecture. MPEG-4, 8PSK, DVB-S2 …I can remember the marvels of seeing video over 56K and now my granddaughters can see the world on their PDAs (and Geri and me) and the world responds back with a push of a button – did I mention they are 8 and 5?  Many media companies and their familiar faces are gone but the contributions endure.

Various personalities in our industry have succeeded while others have failed, but their involvement, large or small, in navigating all of us to today must also be remembered.

The real glue behind the technology and its inherent utilization is relationships.  It always has and always will be the single underlying factor in advancing our growth.   VISTA’s strength is customer service that constantly builds upon and is reinforced by positive and trusting relationships nurtured over decades.  I’m concerned that we old stalwarts (or dinosaurs, perhaps) overshadow our younger colleagues and we must consciously create environments and opportunities to allow them to foster their own friendships within our unique community.

As I look forward to a new year with tremendous prospects open to VISTA and new opportunities that in previous years found there way only to my science fiction novels, I am excited about my own personal growth as well as that of my staff and colleagues.  The delivery of content continues to move rapidly through our environment and yet we somehow manage to stay ahead of the pace.

So…. Email me, Twitter me, Skype me, Linkedin me, Text me, Facetime me, BBM me, Facebook me or just pick up the phone… and let’s have that beer,(Domestic, Import, Micro Brew, Home Brew or draught) and you can ask me all my thoughts on how 3D-TV will change the world…for a couple of years.
